Should you buy or lease an office printer?
When in the market for a photocopier or office printer, many would be wondering if it is better to purchase or rent a device. Here are some quick points to help you make the decision that would best suit you and your business:
Purchasing a printer
The advantages of buying a printer:
- Your business owns the printer
- You can sell the printer at any time, if you want to upgrade or stop printing works
- There may be tax benefits to buying an office printer
The disadvantages:
- You need to have enough cash available to pay for the printer upfront
- If you do not like the device, or if the technology gets outdated, you need to sell it to upgrade
- The resale value declines greatly
Benefits of Leasing a Printer
Cost savings
Rising printing costs is a problem for many organisations, due to the need to purchase and/or upgrade the device, numerous maintenance and repairs, never-ending replenishment of supplies, and untracked printing usage. Our managed print service will help your business control and track print costs, and includes equipment financing, ongoing onsite services, and other consumables.
Latest Print Technology
We offer a wide range of top quality printers from trusted brands with various capabilities. Through our managed print service, we’ll recommend devices based on your business requirements, while ensuring that your printing infrastructure is equipped with the latest, industry leading software.
Budgeting Benefits
With a managed print service plan, you can consolidate your costs. With all the printing expenses (device financing, consumables and service fees) reflected on a single monthly invoice, it is easy to check your printing costs as well as have a consistent monthly investment. This allows your business to plan and keep to budgets more effectively.
The difference between Standard Printer Rental and Managed Print Services
Printer hire and managed print services are very similar, and often used interchangeable as terms in the printing industry. However, there are a few minor differences:
Standard Printer Rental
In the Standard Printer Lease Agreement, you pay a monthly fee to the finance company for the lease of your photocopier or printer. You then pay the hardware provider (in this case, DDS) a cost per copy for the maintenance agreement, which includes all the toner, parts and basic onsite service. You will receive two invoices per month, and the agreement is generally 60 months.
Standard Printer Lease Plans will be ideal for companies that already have an existing IT division or team that can handle all print service and maintenance tasks.
Print Management or Managed Print Services
With our Managed Print Services, you get only one single monthly invoice that covers the leasing and maintenance agreement of the machine, and this includes a specified amount of prints each month. DDS also offers priority service for print management clients. We have packages to suit all sized businesses, and can customise a solution to suit your requirements.
